In the world of Shelter, other animals are not the only threat one must face. Weather and environment plays a factor too, and a staff member may create a random event at any time, unless the thread is labelled specifically 'no random events'.
Possible events are as follows (more may be suggested):
Avalanche- possible in winter and early spring, an avalanche may occur in the mountains. Difficult to avoid, it can crush or trap animals in its path, though some may be able to dig their way out or find a way to avoid it.
'Blob'- a mysterious blob seen in the forest and plains regions of Shelter 2, it is uncertain what this is. Some think it may be 'lonesome fog', as mentioned in a book by Might and Delight (which is basically loneliness), whilst others think it may be toxic gas, flooding, or just a general fear of the unknown. Whatever it is, it is harmless to those that know to stick close to their young- but panic, and it is easy to become separated.
Flood- possible in early spring and late autumn, when the snows are newly melted or the rains are more torrential, flooding may occur in the plains, mountains or forest- wherever there is a river or lake. It may also occur in the tundra in summer, when the ice floes melt and the ocean rises. Young animals may be washed away if they attempt to cross a flooded or swollen river, and others may drown or find themselves struggling to find food.
Snowstorm/Blizzard- possible in winter, a snowstorm may occur in the mountains or tundra. It can cause animals to become separated from their young, and for those unused to such cold weather to freeze.
Wildfire- possible in spring, summer and early autumn, a wildfire may occur in the mountains, plains (specifically the crystal pool) and forest, wherever there are trees. It is usually caused by lightning strikes on particularly dry days. Fire can cause a young, inexperienced or anxious animal to panic and end up trapped by the flames, or choked by the smoke.
